Shivani is an urban anthropologist. As an early career researcher, she is focused on urban transportation and mobility, and critical minerals supply chain. At the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis, she is focused on national and subnational policies, and initiatives for sustainable mobility and zero emission vehicles in India.

Shivani is an early career researcher, focused on sustainable urban mobility and critical minerals supply chain. Presently, as part of India ZEV Research team at ITS, UC Davis, her work involves research and analysis on minerals' sourcing strategies and trade data for lithium supply chain.

      She was an urban fellow at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, Bangalore where she gained practical experience working with multidisciplinary groups and combined her anthropological training with new forms of urban practice. Later she moved to Parisar, Pune, and studied the transportation systems of Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur, contemplating initiatives for low carbon sustainable mobility in these cities. She was also engaged with the Bicycling Research Team, University of Chicago and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, in primary research on barriers to bicycling in the cities of low- and middle-income countries and did fieldwork in Delhi with cyclist/non-cyclist groups to understand the bicycle culture of the city. 

Shivani has a Master of Science in Social Anthropology from the University of Delhi, New Delhi.
