The global race to secure critical minerals is reshaping how countries approach industrial strategy, trade and development. Lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, graphite and rare earths are now as strategically consequential as fuel once was, but the value in these supply chains lies well beyond extraction, in processing, intermediate materials, manufacturing and recycling. For the Global South, which holds roughly 70% of the world's critical-mineral endowments yet captures under 20% of the value added, the central question is how to move up the chain and how cooperation between countries can make that possible.
This webinar continues a conversation from Council’s first Global South Convening on Clean Technology Minerals & Supply Chains, which brought together governments, industry and state enterprises from across Asia and Africa to explore how emerging economies can build value-chain partnerships. The goal of this webinar is to bring together government, industry and state-enterprise perspectives to explore where the most promising opportunities for collaboration lie across the value chain, and how they can be turned into concrete action.
This webinar, the third in the Council for Critical Minerals Development in the Global South's Critical Mineral Collaboration Series focuses on practical avenues for South–South collaboration across the critical mineral value chain, from exploration and processing through to manufacturing and recycling.
This webinar aims to shift the conversation on critical minerals from an extraction-first framing toward a circular, full-lifecycle approach to mineral security. Specifically, it will:
